I haven’t posted on this blog for awhile, stress about all the events #45 is doing really got to me. Every day there is something, not just one thing, but multiple distractions, idiotic, stupid stunts. Every day you read about the injustices and rights of others being denied them. Every day, you hear about all the proposals the Senate and Congress want to make to make our lives “better” (more miserable) and line their pockets. You hear about collusion, you hear about the nepotism, the payoffs, the lack of transparency in this administration and you wonder is NOTHING going to stop this madness! Is there no way or anyone going to do anything to stop this.
I had to take a break, so I got out of the country, only to find out what other countries think about #45, what other countries are going through and making me wonder what is happening to our world, not just our country.
I think the reason I have been mostly disillusioned and stressed lately is seeing what has happened to our ethics, morals, and integrity. Not just in this nation, which is closer to home, but in this world. These three words are not just words, they are values that are not abstract, they have been valued for centuries even millennia. Although history has seen these values cycle in the populace, these observations that I am making, at almost 70 makes me realize that I now am living in an era that these values seem to be missing. It’s disturbing to see the trend that is taking place in the world, here in the US, Turkey, Paris and Britain. Why are these values, these truths of an honorable life being ignored and devalued? When did an ethical life, a person with high morals and integrity become such a rarity and why do those with these values lose so much in society. Those individuals that work hard, live a clean life, treat others fairly and honestly become the victims of a society that seems to rapidly being taken control by the bigots, narcissists, and cruelty of those who feel necessary to deny equality and a good life for those that live this honest, ethical life?
Since when did TRUTH become a dirty word and lies become acceptable? Why are we as a society turning a blind eye to justice? When did we become so jaded as to accept the violence, the dirty dealings of power, the lies of those in power as acceptable behavior and allow it to continue without even standing up for the truth?
There has always been corruption in society through the ages, however, we have always strived to overcome that corruption and injustice. There has always been inequality in society, but we have worked hard to build better relationships and equality for all. These problems were not acceptable! We fought to achieve more, to achieve better! It will always be a continuing battle, we cannot rest, we cannot be apathetic. We cannot accept anything other the highest of values of equality for gender, race, religion, or beliefs, otherwise, we become complicit. Fighting can be tiring and discouraging, we need to pick our fights and not focus on trivial commentary or appearance but the results and/or possible outcomes of actions that will affect our future, our children’s future, our democracy, and our world. We cannot allow this normalization of hate, bigotry, and lack of global concern persist. We must maintain fortitude and strength to continue the fight. Fighting for our beliefs, for global conscience and ethics takes courage. It’s time now to take stock of our own values and see where we stand, how we want our world to go forward. Do you have the strength and courage to evaluate your own ethics, morals, and integrity and take it to the world?
We need to not only protect each other in this turbulent and dangerous time, we need to protect ourselves. We need to protect our energies and spirit. We need to re-evaluate where we can do the most good while still keeping true to ourselves and keeping the negative energies from draining us. This is vital to maintain the resistance, to maintain the fight for what is right for the good of the earth, our democracy, and our own souls.

Personally i think the main reason for much of it lies with the rise of science over religion in society. Science may give some answers to questions and tools with which to investigate our world, but very few are qualified to or, are interested in, finding/using them. Science gives answers people in general can do without, but give them nothing in terms of direction or what they should be aiming for in life. It fails to lead them and actually inspires very few to be ‘better’ human beings.
Religion might not have achieved this all that well itself (because we humans are not very good at self-assessment or improvement) .but at least it encouraged us to and had a simple plan to follow – love One God above all else and love yourself and your neighbour.equally..To subjugate the ego of the self to a superior power than your own.

thanks, much of what I post are exactly what I call my site-“musings” of my mind. Being an ex scientist turned graphic designer, and not exactly religious, but deferring to the multi faceted belief in a universe larger than myself I question many philosophies and try to make sense of what is going on in a world that doesn’t seem logical or interested in seeking peace and tranquility within the soul or with others.

I like to believe the world IS logical – that there is always a (or several interconnected) reason for things happening the way they do. Sometimes the reason is not the one i first thought it might be – i can guess wrong! who’da thunk it?? :-). The trouble is, people (and in that i include myself!) are not very good at logic. If i’m feeling generous i put this down to the fact that the world is far larger and more complex than our mindspace can accurately analyse. If i’m in my usual mood i just think most people are too dumb to get it or too greedy and self-interested to care. 😉
I was an adherent of science alone for the first 3 decades of life but have come to believe that we would be a far more humane planet if we all believed in a superior power to our own that guides and orders the Universe we are all (a miniscule) part of. 🙂
I don’t believe any single human brain is currently capable of making all that good a job of leading us through a successful life under it’s own powers ‘alone’.

🙂 I do think there is always a logical explanation for why things are the way they are. I am an avid history buff and as you say, many do not understand the logic or analyse the repercussions of actions or lessons that the of mistakes of history should have taught them. Personally, I try to learn from world history, as well as the most recent history of my own mistakes (and I have made my fair share) I suppose I still am an adherent of science, but I was never the typical chemist, I was always the scientist that really didn’t fit the stereotypical chemist or scientist profile. I have always thought and asked more whys of the spiritual nature Life is too precious to be as dry as most scientists make it out to be, but as much as I like to keep my spirit soaring, I also like to keep my feet firmly planted in reality.

The problem, as i’ve recently discovered (but long suspected), in part thanks to the events leading to and following on from your last presidential election, is that reality is not ever what we think it is! We all are living individual and collective illusions that are only somewhat dimly related to an actual thing we might call ‘Reality’. Some very serious scientists have putting forth the propostion that what we call Reality may in fact be a holographic simulation of some unknown lifeform and that we only exist as a part of that simulation. We may just simply be bits of some kind of massive computer coded program?
For over one hundred years physicists have known that the act of observing ‘reality’ changes said reality which means that whatever reality was before, or until, we observe it, it is no longer the same after we have done so. So just what is ‘real’ in that case?
As for God – i am in no way certain of his/her existance, but i do feel that i can have a greater chance of being a better individual by following the ideals of a benevolent, loving, righteous ( and jealous?) God as set out by the Biblical writers than i could do just on my own initiative from scratch or trying to decide which human philosopher i should agree with. It is a slight problem that those writers did not consider the many complicating factors of our modern ‘progressive’ society. 😉

Oh – as for the spirit/reality thing.
My ‘musings’ recently have made me very firmly of the opinion that whatever it is we are all living ‘in’, Duality exists in ALL things and this needs to be appreciated and adopted in our life through finding the correct balance between two ‘extremes’. Spirituality is the counterpart to physicality in life and having too much of either one to the detriment of the other is not a beneficial outcome for anyone. Finding the correct perspective from which to view things is key.
Usually this means changing our current one in some way 😉
