Freedom Quote of the Day #13

thomas-jefferson“When governments fear the people there is liberty. When the people fear the government there is tyranny.”
— (indirectly attributed to Thomas Jefferson in The Federalist. Also attributed to Samuel Adams and Thomas Paine. It is considered likely that this exact phrase probably originated in 1914, by John Basil Barnhill.)

      • I totally agree. That’s one of the reasons I started my blog. If you notice, I said I’d be posting about politics. It seems to piss off a lot of people when I do, but I still do it occasionally. 😉
I strongly believe in the principles our country was founded on. Unique in world history- that the INDIVIDUAL has inherent and inalienable rights. Rights that did NOT come from government! I think almost nobody remembers that today and that is the reason our country is falling apart.
It’s so, so sad. What we had and we’re throwing it away. I get so frustrated, sad and angry!
I just want to live my life in peace, the way I was PROMISED while I was growing up here. According to the Constitution. But my rights have almost all disappeared. So many of them just in my lifetime.
Yes, I do my best to TRY to wake people up to what they’re doing by throwing all their freedoms away. I keep beating my head against the wall, but it gets mighty painful after awhile. 😦

      • You and me both, I’ve always been the quiet little mouse when it comes to politics and believed, maybe naively that our constitutional rights would always protect the individual. My heart literally aches when I see all the hate and hateful speech coming from the people. It seems like our country has gone mad. I have alienated many of my relatives, but I can’t stay silent any longer or remain naive. It does get painful, but I think we are going to have to go through a lot of pain as our founding fathers did for us to achieve equality for us and our brothers and sisters.

      • I can’t say I’ve ever been the quiet little mouse when it comes to politics. LOL. I go to the other extreme.
My best friend told me yesterday that I go overboard and people don’t want to be around me anymore.
But I can’t help it. I get so damn frustrated and really pissed off when people just don’t get it. Its really a simple idea.
Self ownership. What’s not to understand about that???
I’m not sure about your comment re: equality. I don’t believe people are equal, obviously we’re all different so NOT equal. Except under the law, as its supposed to be (but not followed most of the time). I don’t think we need to do much more as a society but take the fetters off of everybody and give them the freedom to live their own lives the way they think best.
Take off ALL restrictions on what job someone can have, what it takes to start a business, what they can do with their property. Do that and we’ll see a huge burst of prosperity for everybody.

      • The equality i believe is in being given the opportunity to achieve, accomplish and be equally rewarded for those accomplishments. Not everyone is equally motivated or ethically inclined to achieve what is possible in a right and moral way. But the possibility exists. I have always been quiet politucally. In fact, I’m normally a very quiet person in general. Things change. I’ve changed.

      • I agree with you there. I was concerned cause when so many people talk about ‘equality’ they really mean they want to try to force the outcome to be equal. Even as we agree we are not equally motivated, etc. Yes, I agree, the possibility exists and I believe that if we stopped depending on 3rd parties (government) to fight our battles for us, we would get there much faster.
